Hannah Chase

I am an instructor at the Magnet Theater, where I also coach and direct house teams, as well as a number of indie teams and practice groups across the city and from all of the New York improv schools.

I have been studying improv in New York City (both at the Magnet and UCB) since 2002, and have learned from a huge number of wonderful teachers at both theaters, as well as many many great coaches.

I perform weekly at the Magnet (with the Megawatt team The Music Industry) and have been part of weekend teams The Friday Night Show and The Weave, and have also performed at the PIT with Gas Station Horror. I love coaching and working with teams to find their unique voice and style. I love working on patient play, game, organic work, group games, accessing character through physicality, keeping honest in scenework, being open to more silliness. I love working with groups of all sizes but have a real soft spot for duos. Most importantly, I think that improv should still feel like play and discovery, even while we work to improve. I can tailor my approach and exercises to suit the needs and vibe of your group, and if we work together regularly, I will always make an effort to come see your shows and give notes, if that's something you would like.
